Nano Banana 2 Lite
The fastest, most affordable model in the Nano Banana family — drafts, ideas, and text-driven image edits
About the model
Nano Banana 2 Lite is the lightest model in the Nano Banana family, also known as Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite Image by Google DeepMind. It is built for speed: it turns a text prompt into an image quickly and suits tasks where trying several ideas matters more than getting a final high-resolution shot right away.
The model can create images from scratch and also edit existing ones from a text instruction: replace the background, change the style, remove a stray object, or adjust the composition. You can pass up to 10 reference images per request, and the formats cover both familiar proportions and long banner shapes — 4:1, 1:4, 8:1, and 1:8.
Lite outputs 1K images. If you need a final version in 2K or 4K, a handy workflow is to find the idea in Nano Banana 2 Lite and then repeat the prompt in Nano Banana 2 or Nano Banana Pro.
Strengths
- Fast results — easy to explore many variations of one idea
- Text-driven editing — swap backgrounds, styles, or individual objects
- Up to 10 reference images per request
- Non-standard aspect ratios (4:1, 1:4, 8:1, 1:8) plus automatic format selection
- Readable in-image text and recognizable characters across shots
Best for
- Quick drafts and finding a visual direction
- Covers, thumbnails, and social media graphics
- Product scenes for storefronts and listings
- Small edits to finished images without heavy retouching
Limitations
- 1K resolution only — for 2K and 4K choose Nano Banana 2 or Nano Banana Pro
- Detail and edit precision are slightly lower than Nano Banana 2
Prompting tips
- Start with a short prompt and refine it based on the result — iterations are cheap here
- Describe the subject, scene, style, and intended use in one prompt
- For edits, say explicitly what to change and what to keep as is
- When you need a final high-resolution version, switch to Nano Banana 2
