Seedream 5

Three versions to choose from — fast Flash, thoughtful Lite, and precise Pro for infographics and edits

About the model

Seedream 5 is ByteDance’s new generation of image models. Instead of one all-purpose model, it comes in three versions, each tuned for a different priority: speed, smarts, or precision.

Flash is the fastest and most affordable. It’s built for frequent requests and high volume: ad variants, covers, social graphics. When editing, Flash understands visual cues — boxes, arrows, and markers drawn right on the image — and changes exactly the marked area. You can add up to 10 references per request.

Lite bets on reasoning. It handles short and imprecise prompts better, follows real-world logic, and does well with educational visuals, diagrams, and charts. From a reference, it carefully carries over style, lighting, and mood. Lite outputs images in 2K, 3K, or 4K and accepts up to 14 input files.

Pro is for the final result. It’s strongest at dense text, infographics, and complex layouts, reproduces lighting, materials, and skin texture more faithfully, and changes only the needed fragment when editing. Text in different languages looks like a natural part of the design rather than an overlay.

In our service, every version is available in two modes: text-to-image and image-to-image.

Strengths

  • Flash: fast, low-cost generation for frequent and high-volume work
  • Flash: edits guided by visual cues — boxes, arrows, and markers on the image
  • Lite: multi-step reasoning that better handles short or vague prompts
  • Lite: 2K, 3K, or 4K output and up to 14 references per request
  • Pro: dense text, diagrams, and infographics with a clear hierarchy
  • Pro: realistic lighting, materials, and skin texture
  • Native multilingual text rendering in all three versions

Best for

  • Ad banners, covers, and social graphics at volume (Flash)
  • Educational visuals, diagrams, and explainer graphics (Lite)
  • Infographics and product cards with callouts and labels (Pro)
  • Pinpoint edits to a finished frame — swapping an object, color, or background
  • Localizing marketing assets for different markets

Limitations

  • Flash and Pro accept up to 10 input images, Lite up to 14
  • Each file up to 30 MB
  • Supported formats: JPEG, PNG, WEBP
  • Maximum resolution: Flash — 2K, Lite — 4K, Pro — 2K
  • Prompt length: up to 5,000 characters (Lite — up to 3,000)

Prompting tips

  • Pick the version for the job: Flash for quick iterations, Lite for reasoning-heavy scenes, Pro for a final frame with text
  • When editing, say explicitly what to keep and what to change — the model preserves untouched areas
  • In Flash, you can mark the edit area right on the image with a box, an arrow, or a marker
  • Put in-image text in quotes and specify the language
  • For infographics in Pro, describe the structure: headline, blocks, labels, reading order
